Agenda

12:30–13:00 Welcome with sandwiches and soft drinks

13:00–13:15 Greetings and Introduction

13:15–14:15 External Keynote Presentation

  • Software Assessment through Metrics and Beyond; Dr. Tudor Girba, Software Engineering GbmH

To manage software systems, we first need to understand them and assess their quality. However, software systems are large and complex, and documentation is often not reliable. To handle this situation we need assessment techniques and tools that provide an accurate overview.
Metrics are such tools, and in this talk, we provide an overview of their role in the assessment process: we talk about the goal-question-metrics paradigm, we list examples of various ways in which we can measure external and internal quality aspects, and we describe the use of metrics in quality models.
At the end, we step back, we talk about the pitfalls that accompany metrics and argue about how the process of assessment can and must go beyond metrics.

Dr. Tudor Girba www.tudorgirba.com attained his PhD in 2005 from the University of Berne, Switzerland, and he now works as a consultant at http://www.sw-eng.ch Software Engineering GmbH. His expertise lies in the area of software engineering with focus on software assessment, and he is currently helping companies to manage their software systems through advanced assessment techniques and tools. He is one of the main architects and developers of the Moose platform (http://moosetechnology.org), and he participated in the development of several other assessment tools, models and techniques. He is the president of the Moose Association and the Treasurer of the Swiss Group for Object-Oriented Systems and Environments.

14:15–15:00 Internal Keynote Presentation

  • Metrics for Methodology Transition - Which metrics were applied to measure a transition of methodology? How do standard methodologies approach the project metrics?; Reto Müller (UBS AG)

15:00–15:30 Tea and Coffee Break

15:30–16:45 Members Short Presentations

  • Development Efficiency in the Large - Since 6 years, Credit Suisse IT measures efficiency of development projects. The presentation includes the metrics definition, the measurment procedure and some important results.; Carl F. Worms (Credit Suisse)

  • Approach to Metrics at SIX Swiss Exchange - The focus at SIX Swiss Exchange is on efficency and innovation. In the change process additional classification have been added. This will contribute in pragmatic way to the metrics we already have in place.; Edgar Blum (SIX Swiss Exchange)

  • Software Qualitäts-Metriken im Einsatz im Java Entwicklungsstack der Swiss Life; Ulrich Gähler (Swiss Life)

  • Kriterien für die Bewertung von Software-Applikationen bei AXA-Winterthur; Fiorenzo Maletta (AXA-Winterthur)

 16:45–17:00 Wrap Up

  • André Burri
  • Nicolas Magaldi
